Blog #1 Composition

 Introduction

Hello everyone! My name is Rebecca Bonilla, and welcome to my blog! For our class's first blog post, we were assigned to learn about the composition of photos, which as a result allows us to take better pictures in our everyday lives. In this blog post, I will show some pictures I took that I will potentially be using in my photo card assignment, and the specific composition techniques I used and kept in mind while taking them.

Technique 1: Leading Lines

In the picture below, you can see that the left edge of the jar is the lead line, because it is the focus of the picture, and is leading the person looking at the photo from left to right. As you start to pan away from the edge of the jar, you start to shift your focus to the candy that is in the jar and the details of the wrappers, and then you see through the jar and into the background of the picture, which I would eventually like to retake that picture in order to not include so much unneeded background details.

Technique 2: Central Composition

While using the central composition technique, I wanted to make sure that there was only one focal point to the picture that really captured the viewer's eye. In the picture below, you can see that the pieces of candy are the first thing that the eye is drawn to, and that is because of the use of the central composition used while I took this photo. The issue with this picture is that it is very shadowy because I couldn't find an angle that would hide the shadow of my hand taking the picture, which causes the lighting to be focused more on some pieces of candy more than other.

Technique 3: Detail

The last technique I chose to focus on was detail. This is a technique that I think could compliment the central composition technique that I mentioned above, because they both focus on one main point in the picture. As you can see below, I chose to focus on the candy wrappers again, because I think they are so detailed the more and longer that you focus on them.
